We are very glad to announce that Juan Zavaleta joined our Mowa gallery !

Juan is a Mexican Canadian visual/conceptual artist with 20 years background.

 



Juan Zavaleta is a former Member of the Disappeared Mexican art collective "SEMEFO". It is considered an icon and most important art collective in Mexico during 1990's.

Its legacy has been mentioned in books, international art colloquiums and courses in the “Esthetic Research Institute” of the Mexico Autonomous National University (UNAM).




As a solo artist Juan obtained some international awards and the Mexican National Arts and Culture Funding grant in 1999. He lives in Brandon (Canada) since 2002 and received the Manitoba Arts Council Creation/Production “A” grant in 2005.

Juan also made a series of videos that have been awarded in important video art festivals and national grants in Mexico.
